Description

Italian School 17th Century Tondo of John the Baptist Embracing the Angus Dei w/ Two Angels

Oil on copper on wood, housed a lightly distressed gilded frame.

Truly a remarkable find.

John the Baptist was a Jewish itinerant preacher in the early first century AD. John is revered as a major religious figure in Christianity, Islam, the Bahá’í Faith, and Mandaeism.

Angus Dei is the figure of a lamb bearing a banner as an emblem of Christ.

Painting dimensions 7″ diameter. Frame dimensions 10″ diameter.

Very good antique condition. The frame does show signs of distress. Please review all images. The frame has a few chips and is included in “as is” condition.

This is one of the finest paintings in our collection. We think you’ll agree. Please reach out with any questions.
