Description
Jaime Oates Original Painting “Fruit Vendors” c.1974
Wonderful painting by celebrated Taxco, Guerrero, Mexico artist Jaime Oates (1912-2005)
Two women selling their fruits. Bright colors, braided hair and a stucco’d wall give the viewer a sense of daily life in Mexico.
Original oil. Dimensions 16″ x 20″. The frame is approximately 22″ x 18″
Signed and dated lower right. Very good condition.
Born in Tossa de Mar on the Costa Brava in Spain, Jaime grew up in Spain and trained as an artist in Britain. After returning to Spain, he found life under Franco’s dictatorship to be unbearable. He and his Spanish wife, Roser, moved to Mexico, eventually settling into Taxco in 1955.
Jaime painted every day of his life until the last few years when he was incapacitated.
This is a fine painting from a Spanish / Mexico master.
