Jean Varda, of mixed Greek and French parentage (and by some accounts a descendant of David, the great classical painter) was born in Smyrna, then a part of Greece (now Izmir, in Turkey) on September 11, 1893. He spent his boyhood in Smyrna, Alexandria, and Athens.
By 1905 he became widely known as a child prodigy and began receiving receiving commissions for portraits. In 1913 he studied at L’Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris.
This is a rare pencil signed limited edition lithograph. Good vintage condition w/ minor discoloration to the back of the print from the previous matting. This does not affect the image. Be sure to use only archival materials when framing to protect this treasure for the decades to come.
Great Mid Century Modern design and color. This will look great in a contemporary frame.
